On political and spiritual power by Marek Ostrogski

"1st Timothy 2 (KJV): 1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty."

The Apostle Paul wrote in the 1st century AD. At that time, Emperor Nero was in power, and he was launching one of the first and most brutal Christian persecutions in history, after unjustly framing Christians for burning of Rome, which he himself initiated. One may wonder, why Apostle Paul would want us to pray for political leaders, knowing what kind of people usually sit in earthly governments. Why should we pray for Bush, for Obama, for Merkel, etc, knowing who they are?

The deeper meaning of this verse can be found in the old testament era. Prophetic books, such as Daniel or Ezekiel, give insight into unseen, but extremely important spiritual struggle happening behind the scenes, which remains unseen to almost any political commentator, who can only grasp symptoms, but not the root.

In Daniel 10 (KJV): "12 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.

13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia."

Who was the "Prince of the kingdom of Persia?" For sure he wasn't any ordinary mortal. In that chapter Daniel is visited by an angel whos mere sight of which threw him to the ground. No Persian royal would even dare to try to resist a being like that, not to mention the struggle of trying to actively stop it from coming to Daniel in which the Lord required the ARCHANGEL MICHAEL - one of CHIEF ANGELS - to come to his aid. Thus, the only explanation is: the Prince of Persia was a dark spirit assigned by Satan to coordinate activities of Demons on the territory of the Achaemenid Empire, and deceive Persian rulers into doing the devil's work.

Ironically, secular sources seem to support this notion:

Herodotus, a Greek historian, describes the events that led to Greco-Persian war. King Darius assembled a meeting of his advisers to debate whether they should attack Greece or not. One of them is overwhelmingly opposed to the idea. The king tells him however that he had seen a dark figure telling him to do so during his sleep. Over the debate, Darius makes a deal with his advisor; they will switch positions for one day, and the advisor would sleep in the King's bed, to see the figure himself. It happens as Darius ordered, and the dark figure visits the advisor in royal bed, telling him that he will pay greatly for opposing the invasion of Greece; thus making the advisor change his opinion.

Has Herodotus unknowingly captured "Prince of Kingdom of Persia" in action?

"Daniel 10 ; 20 Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come."

This verse portrays a very important element of why political leaders should be prayed for, no matter which degree of initiation in the local masonic lodge they may have. They are under constant spiritual attack, dragged deeper and deeper into serving Satan by his legion of demons and fallen angels - they are, in short, his primary targets in the region, and will most likely be assigned the most powerful demons to deceive them. Thus, it is our responsibility to pray for earthly political leaders to bind the demonic spirits attacking them, dragging them into masonic lodges, occult orders and other kinds of demonic deception. Isn't this strange that after several mass prayers organized by Christian groups, the entire socialist government of Hungary fell after someone published video of their PM openly stating that they do nothing (while using several vulgar words), meanwhile the blessing of having Viktor Orban, a noble man who publicly proclaimed that his life belongs to Christ in 2001, when elected the was able to prevent the bailout, expose Soros for who he really is and dealing a major blow to the Rothschild banks?

The battle raged on in the Old testament just as it rages today. We see Pharaoh Necho in 2nd Chronicles 35 speaking this:

"21 But he sent ambassadors to him, saying, What have I to do with thee, thou king of Judah? I come not against thee this day, but against the house wherewith I have war: for God commanded me to make haste: forbear thee from meddling with God, who is with me, that he destroy thee not."

Likewise, we see that God directly worked with even non-Israelite kings in the past. Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, receives several visions from God, and in Daniel 4 describes his own conversion to belief in one true God (no reason to believe he wasn't saved at that time). Likewise, Isaiah 45 has this to say o Cyrus the Great, king of Persia:

"Isaiah 45King James Version (KJV)

45 Thus saith the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;

2 I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:

3 And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel."

Pay in mind, this was written before Cyrus was even born! Cyrus apparently was no fool himself and knew to whom he owes his power:

"Ezra 1King James Version (KJV)

1 Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,

2 Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, The Lord God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah.

3 Who is there among you of all his people? his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of the Lord God of Israel, (he is the God,) which is in Jerusalem.

4 And whosoever remaineth in any place where he sojourneth, let the men of his place help him with silver, and with gold, and with goods, and with beasts, beside the freewill offering for the house of God that is in Jerusalem."

But to what purpose did the LORD need those kings? Cyrus was needed for restoration of Israel. But there is also a different story, spoken in the books of major prophets. Chapters 26 - 28 of the book of Ezekiel refer to the judgment of God over Tyre. Yet most important are those:

"Ezekiel 26; 7 For thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will bring upon Tyrus Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, a king of kings, from the north, with horses, and with chariots, and with horsemen, and companies, and much people.

8 He shall slay with the sword thy daughters in the field: and he shall make a fort against thee, and cast a mount against thee, and lift up the buckler against thee.

9 And he shall set engines of war against thy walls, and with his axes he shall break down thy towers."

Then... we see something interesting in Chapter 28. It is a prophecy against "Prince of Tyrus". Yet characteristics of this prince seem most intriguing:

"Ezekiel 28 King James Version (KJV)

28 The word of the Lord came again unto me, saying,

2 Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus saith the Lord God; Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God:

13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.

14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.

15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee."

This is by no way description of any earthly prince that could rule that city. There is something else; a spiritual sovereign ruling over earthly city, with the city's leadership acting as proxies to channel his power. The Phoenicians were well-known to worship the devil, offering their children as sacrifice to their demon "gods". What we see in here is the LORD bringing an earthly king as "rod of his anger" to destroy works of the devil. This happened several times in history, and most likely happens today also. We know that Satan is restrained-but we see him trying to recreate Roman empire as soon as Justinian the Great (ruled 527 - 565). Yet God always found a plan to foil the devil's plans - very often using earthly nations and their leaders to destroy emerging structures that devil tried to create.

In closing thoughts: How should Christians view government?

"Romans 13King James Version (KJV)

13 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.

6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing."

In short Government's are agents of force, as force is needed sometimes to punish evil-doers.

The bible states that God ordained human governments to administer his judgments. They are "legal channels" through which God avenges the sins. Yet they can also become corrupt, and in such cases civil disobedience is allowed - though God clearly speaks that armed rebellion is not something he supports, especially seeing how David refused to kill Saul when he had the chance.

Yet, there is nothing in the bible that prevents Christians from being in the government. Take a look at Joseph or Daniel; each of them, while being subject to the king, possessed political power far greater than even US presidents posses today. Yet, what is most important: None of them tried to ensure that all subjects of their area will worship God.

God clearly defined that he gave different areas to different authorities. He is far more than capable to avenge offenses against himself. The State was set to judge offenses against THE MAN - such as murder, rape, theft, etc. among most common ones. In fact, the first commandment given to Noah after the flood was:

"Genesis 9 ; 5 And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man's brother will I require the life of man.

In short; there is nothing wrong with Christians being in the government. It is a honorable and noble occupation, one that requires much responsibility and good character. Yet - politics should not be mixed with gospel, and by no means should Christianity be forcably imposed on people. In fact free will is a gift of God, and he can solve the issue of unbelief by himself. Things however like abortion, homosexuality, etc. - all of them are wrong from basic point of view of any ethic code and should actively be opposed."

God bless you all!
